As Rik's listening class student, I walked in thinking I'll learn how to listen, and walked out releasing a core part of my childhood trauma I didn't even know I had. 10/10 recommend 😂
Thanks John. As always, you played a big part in strengthening this one. Appreciate your effort to complicate things for me (in a good way ;) You're keeping me sharp and making me look good!
Thanks Kelly! So glad this one hit home. Appreciate your continued support for my 'mission' of bringing listening skills to everyone who's, uh, listening. I'm especially thankful because you're so intimately familiar with parents and how children learn.
Gheesh. That's a tremendous amount of wisdom coming from a new parent. I had to ruin two kids before these very insights started to dawn on me as the truth. Ha ha, that's partially a joke, by the way, but part true too. Screwing our kids up in all the right ways is the best we can hope for, and you're so right that modeling and example is 99.9 % of what we pass along. Your daughter is very lucky to have a such a wise dad.
Haha. Funny because it's true. Of course, I'm writing this mainly to myself. Not because I'm that wise saint of a father. Hoping to remind myself as often as I can. It's all too easy to forget and switch back into 'do as I say' mode.
Such good points. Awesome to see you exploring listening through the lens of a parent!

lol This is a very good review. Rik, if you have a website/sign up for your course, this would be the review to put up on it.
Ah, yes! Everything to attract more students like Christin!
An amazing edition. So true. All the "telling" in the world disappears when they see what they see.
“Instead of raising our children, we need to focus on raising ourselves.” Strong stuff, Rik. Love this edition.

Intention, tone and presence. So important to model because it’s noticed and copied!
This turned into a super crisp article. I miss the tai chi teacher but what you cut made this much more powerful
Thanks Eric. Yes, I'm hoping to find a place for him in a future edition ;)
Rik, this is an awesome edition from you. Nailed it.
‘Instead of raising our children, we need to focus on raising ourselves.’ A never-ending process.
Thanks for bringing your listening skills to your writing and the WoP community.
