I felt like you were speaking directly to me in this one. Scissors are a hot topic at our house. My wife will carry them into another room to use them and then leave them there. I can never find them. So, I bought my own pair and hid them in my desk drawer. Now, I just use my secret pair, and whenever she needs scissors, I shrug my shoulders and make her find the pair she misplaced. Probably not the β€œright” way to handle the situation, but we never fight about scissors anymore. 😁

Ha! Who knew scissors were hot topic between spouses, what's going on there? Funny image though, you lurking around your house going to grab your own 'secret' pair. Maybe you wife walking in on you. 'Uh, it's not what you think'. I haven't tried Rosenberg's work on other kitchen items but I'm sure it will work there as well ;)

I've been thinking all night about how to bring up to my girlfriend without sounding angry/rude that I don't like it when she puts olive oil on the cap to measure how much oil she's putting into the pan because the cap just gets all icky (and also what's the point of measuring?). Now I realize the answer is I should bring it up calmly. Thanks, Rik! You just saved us an argument!

Ha, that sounds very similar to my obsessive scissors wishes ;) Another thing that is not in the article that helped me during the years of 'refining my requests' is thinking about how to make it as small as possible. For example, instead of asking: 'could you fill the water filter when it's empty', I made it a smaller ask: 'could your alert me when it's empty, so I can fill it'. Finding the smallest thing that will make you happy has the biggest chance of a 'yes'. And a 'no' is an opportunity for further conversation until both parties are happy and agree on something. Good luck!

Okay, I think I got it. Never run with a pair of open stories in your hand. You might hurt somebody.

You got it Rick. Especially non-food stories.

: ) And never hand someone else the sharp end of your stories first, right?
