"owning a toolkit won't turn you into a craftsman" - great line Rik. You seem to be getting better all the time at pulling this fine yet critical distinctions forward for discussion.
Anytime anyone asks me for writing advice I always weigh in with the same endorsement, depict whatever you are communicating, if possible, in the form of a real story. it’s the ultimate “show don’t tell” hack. i’ve been doing more and more research about this, and neurologically we literally wired to think in terms of stories. It’s just how the human brain works. Being storyfluent, speaking in story, is by far the best way to connect with a reader. Do you know the “hidden brain” podcast? There was a recent episode about the positive impacts of family stories, and some of the research shares is also widely applicable to human communication. Especially as a dad, it’s worth a listen.
Story of course. I should have known :) I'm totally on board with humans being 'story-based', listening to one is easier than telling one though. Thanks for the podcast recommendation.

That's great to hear Rick, especially from you. Since you know my writing well, anything missing? An area for improvement?
